ASG Names David Schleifer Chief Operating Officer, Tasked with Creating and Implementing Key Business Strategies

Schleifer to Play Crucial Role in Helping Company Drive Operational Excellence and Revenue Growth in the Media and Entertainment Sector

EMERYVILLE, CALIF., NOVEMBER 11, 2021 – Advanced Systems Group (ASG), a solutions provider for media creatives and content owners, today announced that David Schleifer has been named Chief Operating Officer. A 30-year veteran of the media technology industry, Schleifer will work closely with ASG President Dave Van Hoy to implement the company’s business strategies, establish policies that promote its corporate culture and vision and encourage top performance from company employees.

ASG COO David Schleifer

Schleifer previously served ASG as Vice President of Strategic Operations, playing a key role in creating growth strategies to help ensure its long-term competitiveness. Prior to joining ASG, he held the position of COO of Primestream, Inc., where he led worldwide sales, marketing, engineering and operations for the company’s end-to-end media asset management, automation, and workflow solutions. He also served as VP of Strategic Planning and VP of Broadcast for Avid Technology, where he expanded Avid’s growth into the broadcast market. Over his career, Schleifer has worked extensively with a wide range of broadcasters including ABC, CBS, NBC, ZDF, and Vice Media.

“David had already demonstrated his operational skills and commitment to ASG’s success as VP of Strategic Operations, so he was the obvious choice to fill this key leadership role as COO,” said Dave Van Hoy, President of ASG. “His wealth of experience in the media and entertainment industry, coupled with his deep understanding of our vision and mission, are essential. But more importantly, he’s a born strategist with a talent for designing business processes, promoting company culture, and leading diverse teams to successfully implement that strategy. I’m excited to work with David to elevate ASG to the next level.”

Schleifer said, “I worked with ASG in my previous role as COO of Primestream, but even before that had long been aware of ASG’s leadership in engineering solutions for Media and Entertainment. I’ve seen how ASG has grown by nurturing its employees’ success as well as focusing on customer needs. I’m looking forward to positioning ASG for greater growth as cloud technology brings us tremendous opportunities to lead the technology conversation – and deliver the end-to-end solutions – that digital media, entertainment and broadcasting demand.”

Souza to Develop Business Practices that Best Support Company’s Cloud-Based Virtual Production Control Room for Media and Entertainment Sector

EMERYVILLE, CALIF., OCTOBER 27, 2021 – Advanced Systems Group (ASG), a solutions provider for media creatives and content owners, today announced Claudia Souza joined the company last month as Cloud Revenue Officer. She will lead the company’s cloud-based live production business operations, including sales efforts for ASG’s new Virtual Production Control Room (VPCR) a cloud-based live production platform for broadcast-quality live event coverage.

Claudia Souza, Cloud Revenue Officer, ASG

Prior to joining ASG, Souza was part of the leadership team of Grass Valley’s Advanced Technology Division, in which Souza spearheaded the commercial launch of Grass Valley’s GV Media Universe, a leader in cloud transformation for Media and Entertainment. As Director of Global Business Development and Solution Architecture, she played a key role in developing and implementing go-to-market plans for the company’s new cloud-based business model, putting in place all processes and procedures for this new initiative, including establishing Grass Valley’s GVMU Advanced Channel Partner program. Previously, she spent 13 years at Sony Electronics in various roles, her last as Global Business Development Manager, where she spearheaded a worldwide systems integration initiative focused on M&E.

“I literally can’t think of anyone more qualified to lead our cloud business than Claudia. With her experience in developing cloud-based production solutions, she can help us maximize the potential of our VPCR,” said Dave Van Hoy, President of ASG. “Cloud business models can be quite different than traditional capital expenditures. Claudia will help educate the ASG team on how to execute these new models, plus develop partnerships with more vendors and expand our client base.”

Her main objective at ASG will be to expand and implement a successful business model for VPCR. “In a broad sense, my experience is in turning leading edge technology into a thriving business,” she said. “Everyone focuses on attention-grabbing innovation, and that’s wonderful, but the business side is just as important. Without the right processes and teams in place to support it, that initiative won’t prosper. ASG’s done an amazing job so far with VPCR. I’m here to take it to the next level.”

Finding the sweet spot for that transition to cloud-based operations will be her main objective at ASG. “Many media and entertainment companies are interested in the cloud,” she added, “but they’re still working on figuring out how it fits into their future. I look forward to helping customers find the most effective ways to leverage the cloud within their unique environments.”

ASG Secures San Leandro Unified School District with Extensive IP-Based CCTV System

,

EMERYVILLE, CALIF., April 23, 2019 – San Leandro Unified School District in San Leandro, Calif., is protecting more than 9,000 students with a new IP-based CCTV system designed and installed by Advanced Systems Group (ASG), a leading media technology and engineering firm. The system provides video support for the 13 schools in the district, as well as offices, a community center, and other district facilities.

The district was having issues with its previous camera system, which was a mishmash of analog and digital technologies that “just wasn’t working well,” according to Manuel Ruiz, CTO at SLUSD. Funded by a bond that generated monies for safety and technology, the $1.5 million system is being used regularly by administrators, who received training through ASG.

Rabinder Mangewala, senior director at SLUSD, said the new CCTV system can capture student disciplinary issues on video, so administrators do not have to spend as much time investigating what happened. “Because the system is so good, investigation time is greatly reduced,” he explained. “It can make a huge difference in investigations.”

School safety was the top priority, of course, but SLUSD had a number of requirements for its new CCTV system, including cameras with long lifespans and a non-proprietary, “virtual friendly” infrastructure that would work with the district’s existing virtual environment. Plus, neither the cameras nor the software could require annual licensing, as the district wanted to avoid ongoing costs to the general fund. “ASG understood that and obviously came up with a great solution for us,” said Ruiz.

Planning for the project began in October 2017, but new camera deployment did not begin until May 2018. Now, there are more than 750 new Sony CCTV cameras across the district, including a variety of 1080p indoor models and 4K outdoor models. ASG partnered with Walker Telecomm in Wheatland, Calif., for camera installation, while the district hired a security consultant to collaborate during the design process.

Mangewala and Ruiz praised ASG’s hands-on approach to the project, which included walking each site to help identify camera counts and optimal installation locations. “A public school district is often short of resources,” Ruiz added. “We don’t have extra personnel to manage these types of projects. Being able to find a vendor to provide us with that type of resource was incredibly helpful. Not only did ASG do that, but support was extremely personalized.”

Cameras are positioned to monitor hallways, building entrances, and exterior spaces, not classrooms. Mangewala said the cameras deliver exceptional coverage.

Bandwidth is not an issue, as SLUSD built out its network several years ago to support a massive expansion of services. In fact, its extensive array of CCTV cameras has its own VLAN, with video traffic separated from other traffic on the network. ASG selected an OnSSI open architecture IP video camera platform, which allows SLUSD to create firewalls to restrict access to CCTV cameras and footage.

“San Leandro was faced with replacing an inefficient CCTV system that had been expanded over the years with an assortment of analog and digital components. The best course of action was to start over – but the new system had to conform to a number of unique requirements,” said Dave Van Hoy, president of ASG. “Our solution provided a reliable and secure bridge between video technology and IP, and it’s delivering excellent results for school administrators.”

“Our new CCTV system is another example of our commitment to student safety at San Leandro,” said Dr. Michael McLaughlin, district superintendent. “Today, technology is a foundational component of any security plan. ASG and our other partners have made it much easier for our administrators to help maintain a safe environment at our schools.”
