Advanced Systems Group and Grimani Systems Create Reflectance Audio Demo in ASG Burbank Facility

Installation Demonstrates Solution for Localized Center-Channel Audio with Large-Format Video Displays

BURBANK, CA — Advanced Systems Group (ASG) and Grimani Systems have completed a new demonstration installation at ASG’s Burbank facility, giving integrators, consultants and media professionals an opportunity to experience Grimani Systems’ CenterPoint Reflectance audio technology in a real-world environment.

Large direct-view LED displays and video walls create an inherent audio challenge. A center-channel loudspeaker cannot be placed in its ideal position behind the screen because the display would block the sound. Placing the speaker above or below the display can make dialog seem to come from the wrong location, particularly for listeners seated outside the primary sweet spot.

With Grimani’s CenterPoint Reflectance technology, a sound projector positioned above the audience directs the center-channel audio toward the display. The display surface then reflects that sound into the listening area, creating a virtual center image that appears to originate from the screen. The result is clear, accurately localized dialog without obstructing the display or moving the center-channel loudspeaker to a less effective location.

ASG and Grimani Systems installed the demonstration system with a large-format display inside ASG’s Burbank facility. The environment allows visitors to hear the technology under realistic conditions and experience it from multiple seating positions. People can experience first-hand how the solution addresses an issue that’s long plagued large, non-acoustically transparent displays.

The installation combines Grimani Systems’ acoustical engineering and loudspeaker technology with ASG’s experience designing, integrating and calibrating complex audio environments. Located in the heart of Southern California’s media and entertainment community, ASG’s Burbank facility serves as a resource for technology demonstrations, education and collaboration. The new Reflectance audio installation provides a place where integrators, consultants and end users can evaluate the technology before specifying it for their own projects.

Visitors can experience how the sound projector, display surface, room acoustics and system calibration work together to create a stable, convincing center image throughout the listening area.

The demonstration also gives project teams an opportunity to discuss potential applications with ASG and Grimani Systems specialists, including corporate presentation environments, screening rooms, entertainment venues and other spaces using video walls or large direct-view displays.
