Celebrating the Craft Behind the Sound at Mix Sound for Film & TV 2026
Sound can build tension, establish a sense of place, or make an imaginary world feel real. At Mix Sound for Film & Television 2026, the people behind those moments came together to share their craft.
Held September 26 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, the event brought together more than 500 audio professionals for discussions, demonstrations, and opportunities to connect. ASG was a proud gold sponsor, in partnership with Avid, and supported a gathering that gives the audio community time to learn from one another and explore new possibilities. ASG shared an exhibit with Avid where they showed the latest capabilities of ProTools.

How Sound Shapes a Story
The program explored sound from several angles, including the choices that influence how audiences experience a scene. In the keynote conversation, sound supervisor Karen Baker Landers and composer and producer Tyler Bates discussed how sound and music create fear and tension.
Other sessions examined the sound work behind Spider-Noir and Beef, the techniques used in horror, and the career decisions that helped emerging professionals find their footing. Together, those topics offered a useful reminder: developing great sound takes both creative judgment and opportunities to keep learning.

ASG and Avid at the Cary Grant Theater
ASG and Avid’s programming at the Cary Grant Theater connected attendees with accomplished sound professionals and their work. ASG presented “INDEPTH LIVE: Award-Winning Sound Design Techniques With Mark Mangini and Craig Henighan,” moderated by Mike James Gallagher.
The theater also hosted conversations with the sound teams behind The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, along with a discussion featuring composer Simon Franglen about Avatar: Fire and Ash. These sessions gave attendees a closer look at the people and processes behind major productions.

Exploring Tools, Collaboration, and New Ideas
Across the studio campus, demonstrations covered immersive audio, workflow innovations, and the best solutions for remote collaboration. The range of technologies reflected the many connected decisions involved in moving a project from creative concept to final delivery.
Additional panels explored the sound of Forgotten Island, the collaboration behind Widow’s Bay and DTF St. Louis, and the treatment of loneliness, space, and creature vocals in Project Hail Mary. Between sessions, attendees gathered to meet peers, exchange ideas, and continue the conversations.
For ASG, supporting this community means helping create space for those connections. Thank you to Mix, Avid, Sony Pictures Studios, the presenters, and everyone who helped make the day possible!
